Remembrance Day Activities

This week in topic we have been developing our understanding of why remembrance day is such an important occasion each year in November.

Can you remember why the poppy is so important?

Below this post are some link to some websites you can look at to help your understanding of remembrance day.

Here we are during our learning. We did three different activities....
  • We wrote postcards to the soldiers who are fighting for and protecting our country today.
  • We did some artwork in the style of Van Gogh, the technique we used was called 'pointilism' which we used it to recreate his famous poppy picture.
  • We described what it must have been like in the trenches during the world wars and looked at problems the soldiers had such as 'trenches foot'.

Here is Van Goghs famous poppy picture....

Class Twitter!

This week in class we introduced a class twitter board to help us progress and develop our learning. We add 'tweets' to the board during lessons in the form of post it notes.... there are two post it notes to choose from. A pink post it note is something you don't know yet and what to learn about in your lessons. The yellow post it note is for something you have learnt and you now understand.

It is a good way of the teachers knowing what it is the children need and want to learn about and also a way of the children showing us what they have learnt!!

Have a look at the photos to see how it works....this week we have been learning about remembrance day in topic.
