Big Write Star of the Week - Friday 18th October

Edward
Edward wrote his diary recount of the Fire of London in the style of Samuel Pepys with great detail and content. He wrote in the first person and really brought the fire to life, using all his VCOP skills and including speech, with the correct punctuation. Well done Edward!!

Black History Month!!

This week in topic we have been celebrating 'Black History Month'. We have been learning about the importance of various famous black people in history, and then we listened to Martin Luther King's speech and wrote our own 'I have a dream...' speeches, before making them into a flap open card, with different skin coloured hand prints on the front. We did some artwork inspired by Stephen Njenga an African artist using pastels and very fine sandpaper ...have a look at the photos I'm sure you'll agree it's very effective and abstract!! I have really enjoyed this week I hope you all have too!!!

Oracy Cards / Philosophy for Children

Every week as part of our SMSC curriculum we have a philosophy for children session. It gives us time to think and reflect on a topic and share ideas and opinions, appreciating each others ideas and taking them into account. Sometimes this session may just be a ten minute slot and sometimes it may be a longer session.

This week we used an oracy card to discuss a topic in our two's and then feedback and share ideas.... our topic was 'You meet a child from another country...What questions would you ask them and why?'

PE this week - Racket Skills!

This half-term in PE we are developing our skills to use in Games.

This week we moved onto using rackets. We started off hitting beanbags with them and moved onto using those tricky sponge balls! They were tricky to control because they were so light. But we persevered and developed our skills; working on our own at first and then with a partner.

It was a brilliant PE session Year 2! Well done everyone, you worked hard today.
